Born in 1971 in Taiwan, Ying-chieh Sun had her Bachelor´s Degree from the music department of National Taiwan Normal University, and she was graduated from the Graduate school of music, Carnegie Mellon University in 1998. Due to her highly achievements of scholarship, she was selected as member of Pi Kappa Lambda. She received her Doctoral Degree in 2010 from the Graduate school of NTNU.
Even in the school days, Ying-chieh Sun´s music was highly qualified. Her composition, The Buddhist Verse, was performed in the ISCM Music World Days 1996, Denmark. Also, she won the first prize for the competition of Cuartato Latinoamericano, 1998 in Pittsburg, by writing the string quartet music, Frozen Sunset. Concerts for her own composition, The poetry of contemporary music (2002) 、Shadow of gestures (2008) and Andante Cantabile (2017) received lots of positive comments. She received sponsorship from the ROC government a lot recent years, and is an active composer in Taiwan.Recently, she puts lots of efforts in managing a performing group, named Sotto Voce music, which aimed to perform art music and bring it to the public mass. Her composition is invited to be part of NCAF Taiwan Composers Database since 2018.
